Q) How much does it cost to enter my child in a Pedal Pull?
A) There is no charge to enter our pulls except a little bit of your time to cheer your child on.

Q) What age does a child have to be to pull?
A) Pedal pulls are open to all children ages 4 – 11 years old.

Q) Do you ever let children under 4 years old pull?
A) Yes. We do at times allow 2 and 3 year old children to pull before the 4 year old group. However these children are not eligible for a trophies and are not eligible to qualify for the State Championship.

Q) Do we have to supply anything for the pull?
A) You must supply us with the contestant and your signature on a consent form. That’s all. We will supply everything else.

Q) How do you determine the winner of a pull?
A) The winner is the contestant that pull the weighted sled the farthest in their age group.

Q) How much weight does our child have to pull?
A) Each pulling surface is deferent so the weight will very from pull to pull. The general starting weight for the 4 year old class is 70 lbs. The average starting weight for the 11 year old class will very widely from 160 lbs. to 300+ lbs. weight for all ages in between is determined by the pull distances and weight of the class before them.

Q) What is a Full Pull?
A) A Full Pull is a pull of 40 feet. Sometimes we do not have a full 40 feet to pull on. When this happens we will determined a distance for a full pull and all pulls of that distance will be counted as a Full Pull.

Q) What do you do if you have more than one Full Pull or you have a tie?
A) In the case of two or more Full Pulls or a tie for any one of the state qualifying positions we will have a Pull Off. In the case of two or more Full Pulls we will reweigh the sled and the contestants with Full Pulls will pull again without any help from us starting the pull. In the case of a tie for a state qualifying position we will have the contestants that tied pull the same weight again without any help from us starting the pull.

Q) What is a state qualifying position?
A) A state qualifying position is any position that is eligible to sign up to go to the Iowa State Championship Pull.(See Who qualifies for the Iowa Championship Pull below for more details)

Q) Where is Ohana Pedal Pullers located?
A) Ohana Pedal Pullers is located in Ollie Iowa.

Q) What is Ohana Pedal Pullers coverage area?
A) Our pulling area generally covers the area of Iowa East of a line from Fort Dodge straight South to the Missouri State line and South of a line form Fort Dodge East to the Mississippi River. Even if you are outside of our area we may still be able to help you find a puller so please feel free to contact us.

Q) Can children from other States compete in your pulls?
A) YES!! Our pulls are open to all children 4 – 11 years of age who have a Parent or Guardians consent to pull.

Q) Can children form other States qualify for the Iowa State Championship Pull?
A) All children 4 – 11 years old may qualify for the Iowa State Championship (See Who qualifies for the Iowa State Championship Pull below for more details)

Q) How many pulls can my child compete at in one year?
A) Your child can compete at all our local pulls, however they must qualify for the Iowa State Championship Pull to compete there. (See Who qualifies for the Iowa State Championship Pull below for more details)

Q) Who qualifies for the Iowa State Championship Pull?
A) Children who finish 1st, 2nd or 3rd at a local pull are eligible to sign up for the Iowa State Championship Pull and must be signed up at the pull where they qualified.

Q) How and where do we register for the Iowa State Championship Pull?
A) If your child was 1st, 2nd or 3rd at a Iowa State Sanctioned pull then proceed to the registration table before the end of that pull and ask for the State registration form. This form is as simple to fill out as the registration form that you filled out for the event you are currently at. Fill out the form completely and return it to the registration table. At that time one of our helpers will confirm that the form is filled out completely and correctly and will present you with a copy of the form. This copy of the form will have all the information for the State Championship that you will need and must be presented at the State pull along with proof of child age.

Q) What do you mean by State Sanctioned pull?
A) All of our pedal pulls are sanctioned with the Iowa State Pedal Pull Association.

Q) Where is the Iowa State Championship Pull held?
A)The Iowa State Championship pull is held in Marshalltown at the Marshalltown Memorial Coliseum.

Q) When is the Iowa State Championship Pull?
A)The Iowa State Championship pull is generally sometime around the first to middle part of September. The date, time of sing in, and a map to the location of the pull are included on the copy of the registration form that you received.
